SEPTEMBER 24, 2019 — Today, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) announced the recipients of the annual Clean Energy Champions Award, which honors Republican elected leaders in state and federal government. Award recipients will be formally recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception during National Clean Energy Week (September 23-27, 2019).
“Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions is proud to recognize an impressive group of Clean Energy Champions for their hard work to push and enact clean energy policies in their home states and on the federal level,” said CRES Executive Director Heather Reams. “These standout award recipients recognize how solar, wind, nuclear, hydro, natural gas and geothermal power are driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering American innovation. CRES applauds this geographically diverse set of Republicans for pursuing an approach that balances free-market economics with the diversification of our nation’s energy system and preservation of our environment.”
This year’s list of elected officials who will be formally recognized at the CRES Clean Energy Champion Awards Reception include:
- Senator John Cornyn (R-TX)
- Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO)
- Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL-1)
- Representative Garret Graves (R-LA-6)
- Governor Charlie Baker (R-MA)
- Governor Henry McMaster (R-SC)
“As a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, with jurisdiction over energy generation and the bulk power grid, it’s an honor to be selected to receive the Clean Energy Champion Award from Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions,” said Senator Gardner. “By focusing on responsible energy development, energy reliability and affordability, and the environment, we have the potential to make a better life for all Americans and our nation more secure.”
“Each year millions of tourists travel to Florida to visit our state’s incredible beaches, waterways and fisheries. The effects of climate change pose a risk to Florida’s small businesses and tourism-based economy, and it’s why our country needs a Green Real Deal to address these challenges,” said Congressman Matt Gaetz. “I thank CRES for the honor of a Clean Energy Champion award and look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to advance responsible policies that positively impact our country’s climate and energy needs for America to continue to lead in reducing emissions and exporting energy.”
“I am proud to stand alongside Republicans leading the way on energy innovation and smart climate policies, and thank Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions for this recognition,” said Congressman Garret Graves. “As ranking member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, I am working hard to pursue common sense initiatives and investments in innovative technologies to address global emissions and combat climate change while enhancing U.S. competitiveness and growing our economy.”
“Our administration is proud of our work to deliver bipartisan, commonsense solutions that sustain Massachusetts’ role as a clean energy and environmental leader.” said Governor Charlie Baker. “We remain committed to our ongoing efforts to advance new energy sources, pursue strategies to reduce carbon emissions and build resiliency in the Commonwealth’s communities, and we are grateful to CRES for this recognition.”
“South Carolina has been recognized for her natural beauty for centuries, and a key part of preserving that beauty for generations to come is using the cleanest energy sources possible,” said Governor Henry McMaster. “I’m proud to accept this award on behalf of Team South Carolina, and the thousands of individuals working to create a cleaner, brighter future for our state.”
